Well, still trying to find the damn ions. Just want to make a list of things that maybe go wrong:
1) Imaging system
If not focusing well, the fluorescence may spread out into too may pixels.
2) Mg oven
We are not sure the oven is working or not.
3) Ionization laser
Is the frequency right? We are not sure.
Is the power enough? I think we had a decent mount of power now: 2mW with 50 um wasit, almost 100 times of saturation intensity.
4) Cooling laser
Is the frequeny right? maybe, the i2 feature seems to suggust we are all right.
Is the power enough? 600 uW with 50 um waist, 30 times of saturation intensity, should be ok.
5) Trap
Well, we really don’t know if it’s working untill a. we trap ions, b. we run out of patience.

The linewidth of the cycling transition is 45MHz, so let’s suppose the cycling laser is well above the saturation, then half of the time one single ion will be in the excited state, and it’s gonna fluoresce at a rate 22.5M photons per second.
The overall detection efficiency of the imaging system is about 1%, which includes effects due to the ion’s dipole radiation pattern, the solid angle of the detection system, losses in the optics. So only 225k photons make into the ccd camera per second.
The ccd camera claims to have a quantum efficiency 35%, so only 79k photons will be capatured and produce photoelectrons. If the gain setting is 1, then every 23 electrons will trigger an A/D count, so we should observe 3.4k counts per second.
The exposure time is set at 0.5 second, then we should expect 1.7k counts. If the light is smeared out over 10×10 pixels, we will only get an average 17 counts per pixel, which is at the noise range. Need to improve the image system. ft.

不知不觉中竟然一年就这么过去了. 当初许诺的全程记录曼联赛季的计划, 也在冠军杯小组赛就遭淘汰后不了了之. 经过一个夏天喧闹的世界杯, 英超联赛的序幕也在不知不觉中拉开. 展望新的赛季, 曼联想冲击切尔西的冠军宝座还有一定的困难, 但比起去年来, 希望大了那么一点. 今年的阵容看起来要齐整许多.

前锋方面, 与Ferguson关系无法调和的范尼被送去皇马, 身价竟然只有1000万英镑, 比不上Carrick, ft, 再怎么说范尼也是每两场进一球的人物啊. 主力应该是Rooney和Saha, 实力还行, 再加上曼联中场攻击力很强, 进球应该还是有保证. 福将Solskjaer终于伤愈复出了, 加上从预备队上来的Rossi, 这两个替补显得有点单薄. 谣言的转会人选有阿德里亚诺、库伊特和托雷斯. 库伊特去了利物浦, 阿德难度比较大, 托雷斯这种帅哥型人物, 曼联有C罗一个就足够了. 另有谣传说国米的马丁斯, 这个可能性倒是有, 马丁斯在国米已经没位置了.
成绩预测:
如前所言, 如果引进Hargreaves成功, 我看好联赛夺冠; 如果再买个实用点的前锋来, 冠军杯我看好能进四强.
