NBA announced the all-star starters this week.
Leastern Conference:
- Gilbert Arenas (G)
- Dwyane Wade (G)
- Shaq O’Neal (C)
- LeBron James (F)
- Chris Bosh (F)
Western Conference:
- Kobe Bryant (G)
- Tracy McGrady (G)
- Yao Ming (C)
- Kevin Garnett (F)

since these are fans’ choice, you can’t avoid the biased opinions. maybe that’s why the leaders of the two hottest teams in nba are not in this list. of cause, they should be a no-brain choice of western coaches.
my choices for the reserves:
Leastern Conference:
guards: Jason Kidd and Ben Gordon. if Vince Carter is not the starter, i don’t think he should be on the roaster. Kidd is still the best point guard in the east, and Chicago is kind of like Pistons last year: good team performance and no super-star. Gordon probably is the choice b/c his killer-instinct in clutch time.
centre: Dwight Howard, this one is easy.
forwards: Caron Butler and Jermaine O’Neal . not too many choices in east. Butler should be an all-star b/c Wizards is the no.1 in the east now.
wild cards: Rip Hamilton and Joe Johnson. Pistons should have one all-star. sorry for Mr. Big Shot. Joe Johnson’s number is good, but Hawks’ bad team performance probably gonna hurt his chance.
Western Conference:
guards: Steve Nash and Allen Iverson. no explanation needed. Nash actually should be the starter.
centre: Amare Stoudemire. also no explanation needed.
forwards: Dirk Nowitzki and Carlos Boozer. again, no explanation needed. Dirk also should be the starter. there are just too many good forwards in the west: Marion, Howard, Brand, Randolph, Odom, etc…
wild cards: Shawn Marion and Josh Howard. Suns and Mavericks are deserved to have a third and a second all-star.
since Yao Ming won’t be able to make the all-star game due to injury. David Stern has the chance to pick one replacement. i will go for Carmelo Anthony b/c he is the no.1 scorer in nba, but MSG brawl will hurt his chance. The coaches’ choice will be announced next thursday.

Graduate Student Association今天下午召开了一个general member meeting. 自从上次去了CUPE的meeting以后, 我对这边这种所谓的民主制度算是没了好感. 今天的会议更是证实了我的看法. 绝对搞笑.
主要议程有两个, 一个是Phoenix和Graduate Student Centre relocation. 请了auditor做一个报告, 包括详细的建筑, 资金计划. 最重要的议程是表决是否增收每年30元的建设费. 一个是罢免现任主席. 我觉得GSA在安排上犯了一个错误, 不应该将这两个放在一块. 因为现任主席是反对增收30元, 将这两个议程放在一起, 给人一种因为现任主席反对第一个议程所以就要罢免他的感觉, 而事实并非如此.
整个过程最ridiculous的事情就是, 所有选举的决定在开始之前就己经结束了. 为什么呢? 因为GSA有个政策, 对于那些不能出席GMM的会员, 他们可以填一个表格proxy, 将自己的投票权交给能够出席会议的人. proxy分两种, 一个是restricted的, 出席会议的人必须按照proxy填写人的意愿投票(proxy上有会议的议程); 另一个是unrestricted的, 基本就是将决定权交给能够出席会议的人, 由他全权代表做决定. 这里就有个很大的漏洞, 很多人可能碍于情面, 将自己的投票权交给任何一个来到他办公室索要proxy的人, 从而决定投票结果, 尽管他对于投票的内容一无所知.
今天的情况是, 现任主席收集了超过300张的proxy, 而到会的所有人加起来不到200人. 所以所谓的投票, 也就是现任主席一个人的决定.
令我不可理解的是, 为什么这么多的graduate student, 在完全不了解整个事件的前提下, 就将自己的投票权交给了正被调查的现任主席?
对现任主席的行为我了解不多, 不想做评价, 但就从这次会议来看, 实在难以恭维.
每个GMM都有一个chair主持会议, 历来都由一个叫Sam的人担当. 刚开始现任主席就提议要换chair, 因为他有300多票, 自然决议通过, 换来一个他的同伴, 明显没有能力主持会议. 接着现任主席提议将罢免的议程提前, 又因为他有300多票, 决议通过. 大家开始一通乱讲, chair又无能力, 整个会议就成了菜市场. 最搞笑的是, GSA请来的做报告的auditor, 400块钱一个小时, 呆坐在一边, 听着一帮人讨论与relocation全然无关的事情. 整个过程超过两个小时, 最后大部分人实在无法忍受, 接近一半的人走了…
接着又有人提议换chair, 通过, Sam重新主持会议; 建议重新回到relocation的议程, 通过; 嘿嘿, 可惜auditor已经走人了, 所以没法做报告. 这个太搞了… 最终通过决议是推迟relocation的投票. 又一个小时过去了.
接着决定是否罢免现任主席. 开始讨论, 讨论的过程是如果你要发言, 举起手中的一张黄纸片, 上面一个号码, chair会记下号, 然后依次发言. 一个小时过去了, 还在讨论; 接着chair好心, 念了一遍接着将要发言人的号码: 超过20个号码… 我实在受不了了, 走人. 去Phoenix吃免费的晚饭, 喝酒…
应该有人写一个这次会议的报告, 即使平铺直叙, 也绝对能上onion.

等了两个月, 终于办出来了, 结束了新年以来的黑户身份. 这次因为要护照延期, 办迟了, 以后这种身份有关的事情还是早办为好.
网上碰到方昊, 竟然要来toronto出差, 到时候可以聚一聚了.
