farewell, Beckham and Carlos

By snake at 12:06 am on June 18, 2007 | No comments

“I made several misjudgements, but my biggest mistake was not to count on Beckham after he announced he was leaving. Not keeping him in the side was my biggest error.”

good luck! Beckham!

San Antonio nba champion

By snake at 12:25 am on June 16, 2007 | No comments

Life is just unfair. Tony Parker won nba champion three times, he is the MVP of the final, and he is gonna married Eva Longoria.

Tim Duncan’s fourth champion, and he is also 4 of 4 in the final. Horry won his 7th ring, and he did it with three different teams, which is very impressive.

For Cavaliers, here is an onion article to say it all:

God, the omnipotent and omniscient Creator of the Universe who recently saw fit to allow the Cleveland Cavaliers to advance to the NBA Finals, expressed concern Tuesday that He might be causing the earthly city of Cleveland undue emotional anguish by doing so. “I can’t help feeling that they who dwell in Cleveland and root for the Cavaliers have done nothing to warrant the dashing of their hopes after having them raised to such lofty heights,” said God, who acknowledged that day-to-day life was bitter enough for city residents. “Although I move in mysterious ways, and in doing so often allow bad things to happen to good people, My grand design is usually glorious to behold. But the Cavs in the Finals…I don’t know, maybe that’s just plain mean.”

nba final game one

By snake at 12:05 am on June 8, 2007 | No comments

well, i change my mind; spurs is a very good team, defensively and offensively.

when i was watching the suns vs spurs series, sometimes i was just wondering why nash didn’t attack the basket as often as he did in lakers series. now i finally realize that because of duncan’s existence in the paint. his blocking ability is unbelievable, and today cavaliers hardly got one clear cut to the hoop.

parker is the best shooting guard in nba right now, period. back a few years ago when spurs met lakers in the playoffs, the way to defend parker was just to let him shoot middle-ranges. but right now, there is no way you can prevent parker going to the hoop, no way. he basically can blow by any defenders and finish the layup with very high percentage. one play, parker dashed into paint, stopped, then his defender bumped into another defender, knocking him off, and left parker with a close range shot. too quick. once he shot the middle-range well, there is absolutely no way you can defend him with single coverage.

the offense of spurs is not very complicated. parker penetrates, gilobili penetrates, duncan backed down, and all the other guys shot 3-point. their team-play is such a beautiful thing to watch. one play, varejao was fronting duncan very hard, so gilobini didn’t have a clean pass to duncan. he passed the ball to horry, who was near the penalty line, and he bounce-passed immediately to duncan for a dunk. so beautiful.

here is the more detailed description of this play from TureHoop:

It’s 80-72 Spurs late in the game. Ginobili catches the ball on the left side beyond the three-point line. He sees Duncan on the low post and wants to feed him the ball. However, Varejao is doing a good job fronting Duncan and thus preventing the pass.

Meanwhile Horry is hovering on the weak side. When Horry sees what’s happening, he flashes to the foul line area and forms a Ginobili-Horry-Duncan triangle. Ginobili sees this, feeds the ball to Horry, and Horry bounces a pass to Duncan. Because Varejao is fronting Duncan, Duncan has a clear path to the basket, and Varejao’s helpless. Duncan has an open path to the basket and an easy layup. It’s not flashy, or even extraordinary, but it’s beautiful. Good basketball players have such an incredibly intuitive understanding of space. The entire sequence described above happened in under five seconds. I can’t even tie one of my shoes in that amount of time.

spurs is gonna win another championship. it’s just killing me that horry is goona get his 7th ring, one more than mj.

update1: people are making case of how cavaliers came back from 0-2 down to beat piston. well, those two games were close, and this one, not even.

update2: in some peroid of time, james was guarding parker and successfully force parker to shot middle-range. some one suggested to put james always on parker. well, if james can defend parker and have monster game in offensive end, he is next mj.
